Léopold Sédar Senghor

Léopold Sédar SENGHOR est né en 1906 à Joal, petite ville côtière située au sud de Dakar au Sénégal. Il arrive en France en 1928.

Avec Aimé Césaire, il va créer le concept de la négritude en 1931, période très marquée par les expositions coloniales, où la France faisait montre de sa puissance civilisatrice sur le continent noir sur un fond de mépris et de négation de toute existence d'une civilisation negro-africaine. Senghor va approfondir le concept de la négritude en la définissant ainsi : «La Négritude est la simple reconnaissance du fait d’être noir, et l’acceptation de ce fait, de notre destin de Noir, de notre histoire et de notre culturel » .
